Contact Lens Recycling in Naperville: DeVito Eye Care Joins the Bausch + Lomb ONE by ONE Program

At Vision Source Naperville with DeVito Eye Care, we’re big believers in daily disposable contact lenses.

Dr. Dana DeVito was recently featured in Review of Optometric Business for her work with multifocal contact lens fittings, and our practice recommends dailies whenever they’re the right fit. A fresh, sterile lens every morning means less risk of infection, no cleaning routines to forget, better comfort for allergy and dry eye sufferers, and unbeatable convenience for busy lives.

But there’s one honest trade-off: daily lenses produce more packaging waste. Each day of wear means a used lens, a blister pack, and a foil top – and because these materials are so small, they can’t be processed through standard curbside recycling.

That’s why we’ve partnered with the Bausch + Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program to become an official contact lens recycling drop-off location in Naperville.

How Contact Lens Recycling Works

Collect your used contact lens materials at home, then bring them to our office during business hours. We recommend reaching out to our office via text or phone call ahead of time (630) 357 – 6662. We accept any brand – not just Bausch + Lomb.

Once our recycling bin is full, we ship everything to TerraCycle, where materials are cleaned, separated, and recycled into new products like park benches and playground equipment. For every qualifying shipment, Bausch + Lomb also donates to Optometry Giving Sight, a global initiative providing eye care to underserved communities.

We accept:

  • Used contact lenses
  • Blister packs
  • Foil tops
  • Contact lens cases
  • Small solution bottles and caps
  • Single-dose eye drop vials

How to Prepare Your Items for Recycling

  • We will NOT accept mixed or unsorted materials.
  • We are unable to separate items for you.

To keep this program running smoothly and ensure materials are properly recycled, all items MUST be separated before drop-off. If items are not prepared correctly, they cannot be recycled through this program. Please sort items as follows into separate bags or containers:

  • Bag 1: Contact lenses
  • Bag 2: Hard plastic blister packs (emptied and dry)
  • Bag 3: Foil tops

Contact lens cases, solution caps, and eye drop vials can go in any bag. Cardboard outer boxes can go in your regular curbside recycling at home.

Why We Still Recommend Daily Contact Lenses

The waste concern is legitimate, but the health benefits of dailies are significant. Daily disposable wearers have lower rates of corneal infections, better compliance with replacement schedules, and fewer complications related to dirty lens cases and expired solution. For patients with allergies, dry eye, or blurry vision, starting each day with a fresh lens makes a meaningful difference.

And here’s a number that might surprise you: the total annual waste from daily lenses (about 2.2 pounds) is close to the waste from monthly lenses plus their solution bottles and cases (about 1.9 pounds). The gap is smaller than most people assume – and now, with the ONE by ONE program, nearly all of it can be recycled.

We’d rather recommend the healthiest lens for your eyes and give you a way to recycle it responsibly.
